The Summit of Whiteface Opens for Skiing and Riding Today
WILMINGTON, New York ??” Whiteface has opened its summit today, featuring spectacular skiing and riding on Paron’s Run, The Follies, and Riva’s Ridge.
Snowmaking system upgrades, excellent trail selection by management and snowmakers, and cooperation from Mother Nature have given the Olympic Mountain its earliest summit opening in the last seven years.
Here is a brief history of summit opening dates:
January 15, 1999
December 23, 2000
December 29, 2001
December 19, 2002
December 21, 2003
January 15, 2004
December 14, 2005
These trail openings as well as the opening of Draper’s Drop bring the Whiteface trail count to 25.
On this date in the past seven years, the trail count was:
2005- 25 trails
2004- 16 trails
2003- 16 trails
2002- 35 trails
2001- 3 trails
2000- 24 trails
1999- 6 trails
Snowmaking continues on Draper’s Drop, Lower Valley, Excelsior, Home Run, Paron’s Run, Follies, Upper Valley and Kids Kampus which will open Saturday. Base depths currently range from 13-25 inches with packed powder and loose granular surfaces.
