From fireworks and torchlight parades to sleigh rides, dog sledding or moonlight snowshoe treks, a Vermont holiday vacation will be packed with fun for everyone.

Vermont resorts report nearly all trails, slopes and terrain parks open for the holiday week following two weeks of almost daily snowfall in the mountains: That’s some 500 miles or 5,000 skiable acres of terrain cascading from Vermont’s Green Mountains. Some areas have received more than two feet of snow in the past week alone! There’s more snow in the forecast along with seasonably moderate temperatures which means comfortable skiing and riding through the holiday period.

“This is shaping up as a terrific holiday for Vermont skiers and riders,” said David Dillon, President of the Vermont Ski Areas Association. “We’ve had a series of modest snowstorms over the past couple of weeks and good snowmaking temperatures for most of the early winter. This combines to provide skiers and riders with some of the best December terrain in recent years.”

Many ski areas report 100 percent of trails open, with the balance of Vermont resorts reporting near total trails and terrain parks open beginning this weekend. This is in advance of a major snowstorm forecast for Christmas night into Monday, which is bound to enable most resorts to be fully open for the holiday week.
