Stowe Opens Toll Road

Stowe Toll RoadStowe Mountain Resort’s Auto Toll Road opens daily from 9am-4pm this Saturday, May 18 through October 13. The Mount Mansfield Auto Toll Road provides access to the summit ridge of Vermont’s highest peak and some of the most spectacular mountaintop hiking in New England. The cost for an Automobile with up to 6 passengers is $28, inclusive of VT tax, bicycles and motorcycles are not permitted.

The 4.5-mile Auto Toll Road is over 150 years old and climbs to an elevation of 3,850 feet. Upon arrival at the road’s entrance, hiking maps and informational audio CD’s to play in the car during the drive up are distributed. At the top you’ll find the Green Mountain Club’s Visitors Center and many hiking options suitable for the whole family.

Hiking options from the road’s upper terminus include and are not limited to:
To the North: The Cliff Trail, Long Trail and Canyon Trail – all about 1.5 miles long and climbing an additional 550 vertical feet to Mt. Mansfield’s ‘Chin,’ the highest point in Vermont.
To the South: Trail options include the Lakeview Trail, Forehead Bypass and Long Trail, all leading to the Forehead on Mansfield’s summit ridge.
