NEWRY, Maine ??” Sunday River is calling out the kids on Sunday, Jan. 22 with the second Kids Pay Their Age Day of the season. All skiers and riders ages 6-18 are eligible. Kids under 6 will not be eligible for Kids Pay Their Age Day because their lift tickets are always free at Sunday River.

The weekend will also feature the NextSnow Search Qualifier event on both Saturday and Sunday. This cutting-edge event allows skiers and riders aged 9-13 to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle for a position at the NextSnow Search Finals to be held at Killington.

The season long search will be made up of more than 70 qualifying events, including 4 super-qualifier events held at resorts across the United States and Canada. Twenty-five entrants to the final competition will be selected to be part of this year’s Sports Illustrated for Kids NextSnow team.

Taylor Owen of New London, N.H. and Jackson Tupper of Kennebunk, Maine were honored with the Qualifier wins last season. Owen went on to be selected as part of NextSnow team. Competing against over 150 athletes, Owen was one of only three girls to be selected. Judges pick the NextSnow team based upon style, technique, attitude and personality.

Registration for the events will take place from 8:00-9:30 a.m. upstairs in Barker Lodge on both Saturday and Sunday. The competition will begin at 10:35 a.m. on each day and awards will be given out at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Entry to the competition is free, but requires a lift ticket for the day.

For those who are young at heart, Sunday River’s Go50 Week, which also kicks off on Jan. 22 gives guests 50 years and older a chance to ski and ride together while getting a mountain tour, dinner specials and access to other events.
