BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire — Despite the slow start to the winter that many Eastern ski resorts reported for the 2006-07 ski season, Bretton Woods Mountain Resort is happy to announce that it posted a record year in skier visits for the season.

Beating out the previous record year of 2001-02, Bretton Woods hosted over 187,000 skiers this past season, a 9.5% increase in the skier visit number for 2005-06. Resort President and CEO, Pat Corso, credits the resort’s favorable spot at the base of the Presidential Mountain Range and its tireless snowmaking team for the favorable end-of-year result. “When the temperatures were above freezing in many other parts of the Northeast this winter, Bretton Woods’ locale meant several “mountain-effect” snowstorms that added up for us,” said Corso. “We found that guests were checking the conditions around the state, and making last-minute plans to head a little farther north, where there was snow to be found.”

At the Resort’s Mount Washington Hotel, the timing of several key snowstorms also meant a strong season. Although bookings going in to the traditional getaway times of Christmas and February vacation weeks were down in the long-range forecast, fortuitous snowstorms in the weeks preceding those vacation times brought in record call volume.

“The savvy skiers and riders know where to find the best conditions, and they found them at Bretton Woods this year,’ said Corso.
