JAY, Vermont — Another day, another two feet of new snow.

Vermont’s Jay Peak Resort opened, over the past weekend, and banked 2 feet of natural snow toward its annual average of more than 360″. The resort offered 20 trails, knee deep powder shots, and more opening day action than anyone can remember. “I live right down the road and it’s been a long, long time since we’ve seen an opening day like this.”, said Chris Young, Jay area local and ardent telemarker. “I’m sore,” he continued, “Very sore this morning.”

The resort didn’t stop where Mother Nature left off as snowmaking continues in the wake of this weekend’s storm. “We’ve been running pretty much non-stop during this entire cold stretch.” says Steve Wright, vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re looking at more than 20 trails and 4 lifts for Thanksgiving Day when we re-open for the season.”

With consistent snowmaking conditions expected to last at least through Monday night, the resort will add its Village Chair, T-bar and Magic Carpet to the already-opened Jet Triple and allow for skiing and riding on both sides of the resort. “Spreading out the traffic is important during the early season and this snow is going to let us expand laterally much quicker than we had expected,” said Bill Stenger, president.

Early season packages are available from $89/person/night, which includes one night lodging in the Hotel Jay, 1-day lift ticket, breakfast, and dinner. Packages are based on double occupancy.
