LUDLOW, Vermont — On Jan. 27, Okemo Mountain Resort will host the second event in this winter’s Okemo Powers Series. Proceeds raised from this halfpipe competition will benefit the Lindsey Baron “Bubba” Foundation. The competition series, named for Olympic Gold Medalist and Okemo Snowboard Ambassador Ross Powers, is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Registration is scheduled from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Okemo Clocktower Base Lodge mezzanine and the registration fee is $20. The competition will start at 11 a.m. in the SoBe Superpipe. Prizes and awards will be provided by the series sponsors and participants attending all three Powers Series events will be eligible for a $2,000 purse.

All proceeds from the competition will be donated to the Lindsey Baron “Bubba” Foundation, which raises money for scholarships and programs that promote acts of kindness.

Lindsey Baron was a member of the Bethlehem, New York, Central High School Class of 1997. She was an avid snowboarder and the first junior female snowboarding Instructor at Okemo Mountain Resort. Lindsey volunteered as a Buddy in the School of Similarities at Bethlehem. In numerous ways, Lindsey impacted the Bethlehem community through her many acts of kindness. Lindsey was hit and killed by a car in 1996 In the spirit of Lindsey’s unselfish nature, her organs were donated to others in need.

Lindsey had created “Bubba,” a snowboarding character. She had produced and sold “Bubba” stickers in Colorado, New York, and Vermont. Their enormous popularity inspired her to dream of expanding the business to include shirts, hats, and other merchandise that would appeal to snowboarders; a dream she wrote about in an essay for her college applications. The Lindsey Baron Bubba Fund was created as a company to carry out Lindsey’s dream and make the line of “Bubba” merchandise a reality.
