WEST DOVER, Vermont — The Main Event snowboard competition comes to Mount Snow Sunday, February 3rd, with a cash purse and a chance to win a wild card spot to compete in the Burton U.S. Open. The slopestyle event features the best riders in New England in one of the largest terrain parks in New England, the Vermontster at Mount Snow.

Now in its fifth year, this four-stop series comes to southern Vermont for the first time. Top male and female finishers move on to the finals on February 10. Overall first-place finishers in the pro category receive the coveted wild card spot to compete in the prestigious Burton U.S. Open in March.

Riders compete in either the pro or amateur level, dubbed the “heavyweight” and “lightweight” categories, respectively. There are no age categories. Heavyweights ride for a cash prize and the U.S. Open spot, while lightweights compete for prizes.

“We’re very excited to be hosting an event with such a buzz around New England,” said Mount Snow Events Director Greg Fisher. “This is a grassroots event that has grown into a major competition. Plus, a lot of the buzz is about showing which New England state has the best riders.”

Dubbed a “mini slopestyle” event for its three-feature terrain park setup, competitors will be judged for their style and technical ability on one jump and a choice of two different rails. Competitors are allowed two runs, with the better score counted.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Carinthia Base Lodge.

The spectator-friendly Vermontster park is located at the Carinthia face of Mount Snow, a short walk from the Carinthia base lodge.
