Windham Mountain to Host Meatball Cook-off and Homecoming
WINDHAM, New York — Windham Mountain announced that Columbus Day weekend is Homecoming weekend at the mountain. The second annual Columbus Day weekend meatball contest will be held at the resort from 3-7pm on October 11, 2008. Last year’s contest drew dozens of competitors to Windham for a cook-off and a “roll-off” meatball race with prizes for first, second and third place winners. The event was so successful that this year Windham Mountain will accommodate a larger crowd and more competitors from local and regional restaurants. In addition to the cook-off and roll-off, the newest competition will be a five minute eat-off – similar to the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest. Live music will accompany the festivities.
Throughout the weekend, from 10am-4pm, there will be sky rides on the chair lift to the summit of Windham Mountain, pumpkin tossing (with a heavy-duty slingshot), face painting, mountain biking and craft vendors.
Homecoming weekend also means that the trails ridden by Olympic mountain bike racers will be open to the public. Access to the cross country trails is free, but the downhill and super D trails require a lift pass. Don’t have a bike? Take a sky ride and check out the colors of fall.
The Windham Mountain Sports shop will be open for business and the local school ski/snowboard swap will again be at the mountain. The Windham Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2008 Autumn Affair on and around Main Street in Windham.
Come home to Windham for Homecoming weekend on October 11 and 12.
