Okemo Mountain Resort to Host Family Adventure Retreat August 14-17
LUDLOW, Vermont — Families with a penchant for outdoor adventure, will find Okemo Mountain Resort’s Family Adventure Retreat, Aug. 14-17, a fun, value-packed, summer weekend away.
Okemo’s Family Adventure Retreat is designed for families with children ages 7 and older. It includes three nights of lodging and two full days of activities with options for kids only, adults only, or for the entire family together. Total cost for the long weekend, including activities, equipment, guides, lunch on Sunday, and lodging, starts at $369.60 per person, for a family of four with two children.
The Adventure Retreat will kick off on Saturday morning with a family yoga session for all ages, followed by an introduction to the program activities. On the first day, families can choose to spend the morning learning and practicing orienteering together, or kids can opt for a bike, hike and swim in Buttermilk Falls, while adults hike and rappel at White Rocks Recreation Area. In the afternoon, families can take part in the Wilderness Survival Challenge or split up for kid-only canoeing and kayaking, or adult-only back road bike riding. After dinner, families can gather ???round the mountainside meadow campfire to roast marshmallows and listen to tales of local history and folklore.
Day two of adventure offers two full-day options: white water rafting or an adventure race.
The rafting group will experience class II and III rapids, ideal for beginner and intermediate rafters. The six-mile rafting trip begins at Fife Brook Dam on the Deerfield River. This group will spend the entire day on the river, and have opportunities to swim along quieter sections where a rope swing awaits. The downriver trip will end with a late picnic lunch.
All-day adventure racers will experience one of the few sports where simply completing the race can be considered a victory. Adventure racing combines outdoor sports: mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, rappelling, climbing, and more. Expert guides will assist families and help get them across the finish line together. Family teams will focus on teamwork, support, trust, working together, defining roles, leadership and communication.
