CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (May 8, 2011) – After a long, cold winter that saw more than 16 feet of snow blanket the slopes, Maine’s 2010-2011 ski season will come to a close on Monday, May 9, when Sugarloaf celebrates its final day of skiing.

Diehard skiers and riders will take to the slopes for one last time on Monday, which will mark the latest closing date for Sugarloaf in more than a decade. The resort will offer skiing and riding on six trails, with lift service available on the SuperQuad. Sugarloaf opened for the season on Sunday, Nov 21

“It has been an incredible year for snow and our snow pack held up extremely well throughout the spring,” said Brad Larsen, Sugarloaf’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We pride ourselves on being able to offer some of the latest skiing and riding anywhere in the East, and we’re lucky enough to have a devoted following of skiers who come out to enjoy the late spring snow.”

Lift tickets for Sugarloaf’s final day will be just $39 for adults, and $29 for teens, juniors, and seniors.

Work has already begun on more than $4.3 million worth of offseason enhancements at Sugarloaf, including a brand new, $3 million quad chairlift. Announced in February, the offseason investments are part of the resort’s 10-year capital improvement plan, called Sugarloaf 2020 . In addition to the new chairlift, Sugarloaf will also continue work on its terrain expansion onto Burnt Mountain, with an additional 135 acres of glades scheduled to open for the 2011-12 season.

Sugarloaf’s summer operations are scheduled to begin on May 28, when the Sugarloaf Golf Club opens for its 26thseason. The course was recently ranked as Maine’s number one golf course by Golf Digest.
