West Dover, VT (August 21, 2011) – Leif Lorenzen (Croton on Hudson, NY/Kona) won his first professional downhill race for the men with a time of 3:21.97 and Taylor Allison (Roxbury, NY/Trek) takes first for the women with a time of 4:04.86 on a brand new course at Mount Snow, VT during the eighth installment of the Eastern States Cup Series. The race was also the finals for the Vermont State Championship with Phil Kmetz (Keene, NH/FTW Industries) winning it for the men and Allison staying on the podium to accept her second gold medal of the day.

More than 90 racers were in the field, which was the third of the Eastern States Cup series held at Mount Snow this season, with races number one and number five occurring in June and July, respectively. The Eastern States Cup Series has two more stops before the finals, to be held October eighth and ninth in Plattekill, NY.

The top three racers in each of the thirteen amateur categories were awarded products from the event sponsors: Camelback, Contour, Dakine, Jamis, Kali, Kenda and Smith Optics. Winners in the professional categories received cash awards.

The downhill course was completed just two days before the event with extensive Earth work being done to create large berms and jumps and also to facilitate good drainage which proved effective with very little damage following heavy rains that fell towards the end of the week.

The course will now be open to the public during Mount Snow’s regular operating hours (Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 4pm through 9/9; then Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 4pm through 10/10) in addition to the existing 35 miles of downhill terrain.

The Eastern States Cup Race Number Eight and Vermont State Championship was the last downhill competition on the event schedule for Mount Snow this summer but the festival season is just getting into full swing.
