NEWRY, ME ??” Sunday River Ski Resort picked up another three to four inches of snow Sunday night. This latest natural snowfall brings the resort’s December snowfall total to more than two feet.

“I skied across all eight of our peaks yesterday and was in awe at the gorgeous landscapes of snow covered trees,” remarked Sunday River Director of Communications, Susan DuPlessis.

Additionally, the latest stretch of cold weather has allowed Sunday River’s snowmaking system to operate 24/7 for nine consecutive days. From Dec. 13-19, it operated for 168 hours, producing 332 acre feet of snow. Sunday River snowmakers have logged 700 hours, the bulk of which has been in December. Conditions are expected to be superb going in to the holiday week and additional terrain is being added daily.

“We will have 78 trails by mid-afternoon as patrol is dropping the rope on natural trails today, and we expect up to five additional snowmaking trails to open in time for the holiday. We are now between 65 and 70 percent open,” said DuPlessis.
