NEWRY, Maine ??” The Spring Festival continues at Sunday River, with this Easter weekend marking the highly anticipated appearance by Rusted Root as part of the Budweiser Rocks the River concert series. The festival ends with the Parrothead Festival and Bust ‘n’ Burn mogul competition April 1-3.

Easter is loaded with family fun at Sunday River. Saturday includes a Snowvenger Hunt, kids games and a concert by Rick Charette and the Bubble Gum Band. Sunday begins with an ecumenical sunrise service atop Barker Mountain. It’s also Kids Pay Their Age day, where a lift ticket is the price of their age, and the Kids Easter Festival at White Cap includes an Easter Egg Hunt, pictures with the Easter Bunny and the Snow Monsters and a Costume Parade and Fun Race.

Nationally-renowned Rusted Root, the Pittsburgh sextet whose progressive, polyrhythmic rock and soul has garnered fans and graced the airwaves since 1990 performs Saturday night at Tango Mary’s. The band has opened shows for such acts as The Grateful Dead and will take the main stage at Sunday River, blending acoustic guitars with African and Latin percussion.

The Spring Festival culminates April 1-3 with the 17th annual Bust n’ Burn and 5th annual Parrothead Festival. The event features weekend-long music and events slopeside at White Cap, and from there attendees can also catch the highly competitive mogul competition taking place on Tempest. Presented by Budweiser, Bust ‘n’ Burn brings top amateur bump skiers to compete for over $20,000 in prizes. The weekend also includes pond skimming and margarita contests.

A portion of the proceeds from the event benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine as part of a collaborative effort between the Parrot Head Club of Maine and the resort (Parrot Heads are Jimmy Buffett enthusiasts who are members of a network of clubs that exist across the world). Sunday River has donated nearly $30,000 to the organization that benefits children with life-threatening illnesses.

Snow conditions at Sunday River are superb with base depths as deep as seven feet in some areas. The resort continues to remain nearly 100 percent open with a variety of terrain from glades and soft bump trails to wide open cruisers.
