With a base level of almost 2,000 feet, higher than the summits of many other ski areas in New England, snow comes early, falls more often, and stays late at Wildcat. Neighboring Mt. Washington looms overhead with unsurpassed high alpine scenery, retaining snow in it’s renowned Tuckerman Ravine well into the summer months.

Jeremiah Beach, Manager of Wildcat’s Rental, Tuning & Repair Shop offers tips on waxing for spring skiing and summer storage tunes.

“In the spring, it’s important to use the right wax in order to keep from sticking to the wet snow,” notes Beach. “And when it finally comes to an end and you decide to put your skis away, it’s important to do it right. We call it the ‘Summer Storage Tune.’ We perform a full tune, then coat the base of the skis and snowboards in wax before putting them away. This protects the edges from rust corrosion and keeps them in better condition so that they glide better and last longer. All you need to do once the snow flies again is scrape the wax off ??“ and you’re all ready to go.”
