17th Annual Oktoberfest Kicks off Fall Foliage Season at Whiteface October 4-5
WILMINGTON, New York — The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) has announced that Whiteface, 10 miles from Lake Placid in Wilmington, will host its 17th Annual Oktoberfest, presented by Aubuchon Hardware, on October 4-5 at the ski area.
Oktoberfest activities will include original vendors, arts and crafts, children’s rides including the popular hayride, Bavarian food, drink and entertainment.
“We are thrilled to be back again sponsoring the 17th Annual Oktoberfest at Whiteface,” said Aubuchon Hardware’s marketing director Michael Mattson as Aubuchon celebrates its 100th anniversary. “It is a privilege to be part of an event with so much culture and tradition tied to it. We enjoy seeing families come to the Adirondacks from near and far for the wunderbar fun and entertainment that Oktoberfest offers the region.”
Die Schlauberger will make its yearly trek to Whiteface and perform under the entertainment tent outside the base lodge. Also performing will be the Lake Placid Bavarians and Ed Schenk on the accordion. The Schwarzenegger Connection is making its second Oktoberfest appearance. The Cloudspin Lounge will feature Schachtelgebirger Musikanten (Scha-Musi). New this year is OK Live, direct from Germany. This group will be performing a show combining music, singing, acrobatics and dancing.
The Aubuchon Hardware Fun Zone features fun for the whole family. It includes pony rides, amusement rides, a petting zoo, games, and much more! Guests may also stop by the Aubuchon Hardware table to receive free 100th Anniversary giveaways and enter to win one of two $100 gift cards to Aubuchon Hardware.
The Cloudsplitter Gondola ride will bring visitors and residents alike to the summit of Little Whiteface for stunning views of the Adirondack foliage. The Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway will also be in operation enabling visitors to journey to the top of the state’s fifth highest peak.
Oktoberfest will be held Saturday from 10 am ??“ 7 pm and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm. A complimentary shuttle service will be provided both days. Departure from the Olympic Center Box Office in Lake Placid takes place at 11 am, 1 pm and 2:30 pm. The bus will depart Whiteface and return to Lake Placid at 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm (Sat. only), 7:30 pm (Sat. only) and 5:30 pm (Sun. only). The shuttle will also service Wilmington with stops at the Candyman, located on the corner of Routes 86 and 431, at 12 pm and 5 pm.
Daily admission for adults is $14 for the festival; $22 for the festival and a scenic gondola ride. The junior and senior price is $7 for the festival and $15 for both. Children six years of age and under are admitted free of charge.
