1st Annual Burke Mountain Bike Race Coming in September

EAST BURKE, Vermont — Burke Mountain announces the 1st Annual Burke Mountain Bike Race, to be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007, featuring a hill climb cycling race and a full day of family-friendly events that highlight the sport of biking, the Kingdom Trails mountain bike trail network, and the greater Northeast Kingdom community. The day begins at the Sherburne Base Lodge at 9:00 AM with a 3.7 mile race to the summit of Burke Mountain via the Toll Road. Following the race, an awards ceremony will be held at the Sherburne Base Lodge. During the awards ceremony, the factory team from Sinister Bikes will be performing a freeride bike demonstration, as well as representatives from numerous manufacturers offering merchandise demos to racers and spectators. Trout River Brewing will have a beer tent, and pizza and salad will be available from The Parker Pie Company.

In the afternoon, Kingdom Trails will hold their annual meeting and invite all members and supporters to attend. At 2:00 PM at the Darling Memorial Park on Route 114, Kingdom Trails will host a barbeque, provided by the Village Inn of East Burke, to honor all of the Kingdom Trails landowners who make the world-renowned trail system a success. Kingdom Trails and Kingdom Kids will be performing a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Darling Memorial Park Picnic Shelter and several bike races for children will follow the ceremony. The afternoon concludes with awards for children and a closing celebration.
