2009 National Safety Awareness Week at Killington Resort

KILLINGTON, Vermont — Killington Resort teams up the National Ski Areas Association to announce the National Safety Awareness Week for January 17-23 and will be promoting the Heads Up campaign to teach skiers and riders about slope safety, plus the entire week is full of events, giveaways and contests.

For seven days, Killington Resort will be handing out an assortment of safety awareness flyers, cards and stickers. In addition, Your Responsibility Code and Smart Style information will be located on caf?В© trays, napkins, all around the resort, shuttle buses and local stores.

Ramshead Interactive Safety Awareness Display
Hey kids! At Ramshead Base Lodge, the hub of our family programs, look for an interactive safety awareness display table, where you can talk with an Ambassador, enter to win a helmet, or simply stop by for some safety awareness fun, plus get your picture with our mini Heads Up! Face Cut Out.

Out on the Hill
Ambassadors, patrollers and instructors will be handing out Know the Code stickers and cards, Smart Style stickers and a Freestyle Terrain User’s Guide to guests. Mountain Ambassadors and staff will be wearing bright yellow jackets that display important safety awareness messages based on Your Responsibility Code

50% Discount on Binding Checks
Guests can have their bindings checked for half price during the week of January 17-23, 2009 at Snowshed Double Diamond Repair Shop. Guests simply need to mention this promotion in order to receive the discount.

Local Safety Poster Contest
In order to promote slope safety awareness and education to elementary school children, several area schools are participating in Killington/Pico’s local poster contest. The contest rules call for 4th and 5th graders to create posters illustrating any one of the seven points of Your Responsibility Code or one of the four elements of Smart Style. These poster entries will be on display around the resort throughout the season. Posters will be judged in two categories: Best Overall Safety Message and Most Creative Design. Two winners and two runner-ups will receive prizes. Killington/Pico Resort poster winners and runners-up will be entered in the NSAA National Poster Contest.

NSAA National Safety Poster Contest
As part of their HEADS UP campaign, the National Ski Areas Association has developed a safety awareness poster contest for kids. The national contest targets fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, but any elementary-age child can participate. Kids are welcome to create a poster relating to any one of the seven points of Your Responsibility Code or one of the four elements of Smart Style.
