2012 Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships
NASTAR and USSA have joined forces to bring recreational racers and US Ski Team members together for a ski racing festival to connect ski racers of all ability levels. Winter Park Resort, Colorado was selected to host the event based on popular demand. The ten day celebration will include the NASTAR National Championships, the US Alpine Championships, a Family Challenge team race with US Ski Team alumni and a Pro-Am Team Competition where recreational racers will have the opportunity to add a US Ski Team member to their team. There will be parties, concerts, Warren Miller movies, race video and games to unite the fans of the sport with current and former US Ski Team’s athletes.
“The Nature Valley Championships are designed to rally the industry and American alpine racers around one event. Recreational racers and fans of the sport will have the opportunity to meet, race and compete with and against their heroes on the US Ski Team,” said Bill Madsen Director of NASTAR Operations. The NASTAR National Championships will take place March 23-25, the Family Challenge and US Ski Team reunion will be held on March 26, the Pro-Am Team Race will take place on March 27 and the US Alpine Championships will take place March 28-April 1.
NASTAR racers will compete in their age & gender category in their division and discipline during the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships. The participants best handicap earned Friday and the best handicap earned on Saturday will be averaged to determine each competitor’s final handicap. There are divisions for snowboarders, telemarkers and physically challenged racers too. Recreational racers from three years of age to 100 years old will compete.
The Family Challenge and US Ski Team reunion is a team race where family members can compete as a team against other family teams on March 27. Family teams must have a minimum of three family members that will score points for their family team based on the best handicap they earn during the Family Challenge. US Ski Team alumni will be invited to participate with their families to create a reunion atmosphere.
March 28th will be the NASTAR/US Ski Team Pro-Am Team Race. Each team must have a minimum of six team members and teams will have an opportunity to add a US Ski Team member to their team during the welcome reception the night before the race. Team members will score points for their team based on the best handicap they earn during the race.
