Aria at Vail Cascade Resort Guarantees Its Ski Conditioning Program
Vail, Co-September 1, 2011-The directors of Aria Spa and Club, home of one of the nation’s first ski-specific conditioning programs, are so confident that the participants of the “Ski Conditioning Boot Camp” will meet their training goals for this ski season, that they are guaranteeing the program. Participants are assured that if they don’t feel the conditioning series prepared them for the season, trainers will be available to map an individual program.
Aria Spa and Club, located at the Vail Cascade Resort, will begin its six-week comprehensive ski conditioning classes on October 13, providing circuit training that includes aerobic, anaerobic, yoga, and core building exercise. A live DJ will provide music and ski movies will be shown on a large screen to add to the energetic atmosphere. A total of eight classes per week are offered at different times Monday through Thursday to offer options that fit varied schedules. Existing club members can attend at no cost, and the public is invited to purchase a ski conditioning package that includes use of the club’s amenities and the ski conditioning classes for $125.
Prizes, giveaway product samples from sponsors, and after-class parties are all part of the fun and challenging program, led by a dedicated team of seven trainers, four yoga teachers, and Warren Miller films professional skiing star Chris Anthony.
Aria fitness director Dan Timm offers this guarantee:
“We cannot control the weather or snow amounts this season, however we can guarantee your body will be ready for what Mother Nature gives us come November 18th when the mountain opens. If you take our classes I promise you will be ready for the season and have a ton of fun along the way.”
Mike Benedict, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) along with John Cole, Human Performance Director of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, designed the six week program specifically for winter sports preparation. “We have been working all summer to collect the latest and greatest in research driven conditioning activities. This year’s program will be a collaboration of dynamic stabilization, CORE activation and balance driven flexibility activities,” Benedict stated.
Personal trainers and physical therapists will be available after classes and at the after-parties to offer free assessments and answer questions. Last year, approximately seventy-five avid skiers and riders attended the classes. The circuit design of the ski conditioning program spreads out the large number of attendees throughout the 78,000 square foot club, the largest in the region. Aria has recently completed a total renovation of the club, including additional programming, new Maplewood floors, “earth friendly” carpet, new strength and cardio equipment and a remodeled pool and outdoor hot tub. The club also has three indoor and three outdoor tennis courts, a basketball court, a spinning room, Pilates room, racquet sport courts and many other amenities.
A live DJ, ski movies on the large inflatable screen and camaraderie are some of the hallmarks that set this conditioning program apart from others. Complimentary food and drink is provided by award-winning Atwater on Gore Creek located at the Vail Cascade Resort. This year, sponsors such as Bern Helmets, Surefoot, Muscle Milk, Sports Authority, Red Bull and the U.S. Ski Team will provide special giveaways. Additionally, all attendees receive free copies of SKI Magazine, and chances to win subscriptions to the publication.
New for this year: Professional skiing legend Chris Anthony, who will make his 23rd appearance in a Warren Miller ski film this year, has been named official ambassador of the ski conditioning program. Anthony is a former Alaskan Extreme Skiing Champion and a veteran of nine World Extreme Skiing Championships. He will serve as motivational coach during the classes and will host a series of special events at the club throughout the year.
Aria Club and Spa general manager Shaun Evans summarizes, “The preparation and anticipation among our trainers and staff is amazing. I’ve never seen so many working parts come together with so much passion to make such an event come to life. Whoever participates in these classes will be more than ready to tackle the mountain.”
