Mount Washington has a well-deserved reputation for extreme weather conditions. It is recommended that guests new to backcountry skiing or Tuckerman Ravine inquire with the forest service before venturing out. The Valley is also home to a wide variety of guide services in addition to mountaineering stores, which offer equipment and know-how.
“Spring skiing on Mount Washington is a big draw,” said Alec Behr, manager of the International Mountain Equipment shop in North Conway. “Along with that comes the need to be informed about the high mountain environment. The International Mountain Climbing School offers guided tours, equipment and local knowledge for those heading into the Ravine or elsewhere in the backcountry.”
