EAST BURKE, Vermont ??” March has been the month for high-profile freestyle events at Burke Mountain, and that trend continues this Saturday, March 18th with the return of the Budweiser Big Air Competition. The first two Saturdays in March each featured a freestyle contest, beginning with the Dashney Mile Style youth competition on March 4th, and continuing with the annual Rail Jam this past weekend. But Big Air is the big one at Burke, with a $500 cash purse and bragging rights as king of the terrain park daredevils.

While the Dashney Mile Style competition challenged the all-around park skills of young freestylers, and the Rail Jam tested the older crowd’s rail riding proficiency, the Big Air Competition has one demand: go huge or go home. Skiers and riders will launch themselves off a specially-built jump on the upper mountain’s Open Slope trail, and be judged simply on style and “amplitude”. Naturally, this event tends to be very spectator friendly.

The competition is open to all skiers and riders, ages 15 and up, and requires a helmet. Registration will be held in the Mid-Burke Lodge on the morning of the event, from 8:30 to 10:30am, with the competition beginning at 1pm. Afterward, the Bear Den Lounge at Mid-Burke will host an apr??s-ski party featuring live music from local favorite, “Duty Free”.

So dig out your superhero cape and get in to a high-flying frame of mind, because Big Air is in the forecast at Burke!
