Chevy Truck Nor-Am Super Series Returns to Sunday River
NEWRY, ME ??” Top men’s alpine athletes, including 16 members of the U.S. Ski Team, will compete on Sunday River’s Obsession trail during the Men’s NorAm Chevy Truck Super Series January 3-6.
The event features both Slalom (SL) and Giant Slalom (GS) races, with GS events scheduled for the first two days and SL the latter two. First run for all four days is scheduled for 9:30 am with the second at 12:30 pm. Admission for spectators is free.
Among the field of competitors are U.S. Ski Team members James Cochrane of Keene, NH, Jesse Marshall of Pittsfield, VT, and Jake Zamansky of Aspen, CO. Cochrane has taken the field by storm in just his second year competing on the NorAm circuit. He is currently ranked first in both the GS and Slalom disciplines for the NorAm series. Zamansky is ranked second in GS and Slalom and Marshall is ranked third in GS.
Sunday River is among an elite group of resorts chosen to host a Chevy Truck Super Series Men’s NorAm event. Other resorts include Jackson Hole (WY), Beaver Creek (CO), Lake Louise (Alberta Canada), Big Mountain (MT) and Mammoth (CA).
The Chevy Truck Super Series is the U.S. portion of the FIS NorAm Cup, one of five International Ski Federation Continental Cup series worldwide (others include Europa Cup, South American Cup, Australia/New Zealand Cup, and Far East Cup). The top two overall athletes in the NorAm standings in each of the four disciplines (Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, and Downhill) earn World Cup starting positions for the following season.
