GILFORD, New Hampshire — It has been a tough start to winter in New Hampshire, but Gunstock Mountain Resort is hosting 100 to 150 skiers from 9 New Hampshire schools in an upcoming NHIA race this Monday January 8th.

Gunstock, in partnership with the Gunstock Nordic Association, and Interlakes High School has offered the base area in the afternoon to the schools in order to get their race in. The course will be set up at 4 pm on Monday afternoon, competing in the race will be Interlakes, Gilford, Hopkinton, Derryfield, Moultonborough, Profile, Sant Bani, and Gorham.

“We are very fortunate to have Gunstock’s contributions, they allow us to ski on the base area and it’s great to at least get the kids on the snow,” says Gunstock Nordic Association president Andy Howe.

Interlakes has only had one race this season which was a team relay. With teams of two, a boy and a girl, each skier went twice to finish a half- K race. More than 100 skiers attended Gunstock’s first race of the season, last month.

“We are setting up a 3k course and we will try to make it fun. For some of these kids it’s only their second time racing this season. They are just hungry for snow,” says Howe.

Spectators are encouraged to attend, racing should begin around 4:30 pm.

The Gunstock Nordic Association is located at Gunstock ski area in Gilford. It offers a year round training program for X-C skiers and jumpers. The GNA is a 501c3 Corporation, helping members achieve their personal dream either to be an Olympian, the best skier in high school or to just stay involved in Nordic skiing.
