Jiminy Peak Begins Snowmaking for 2007-08 Season
HANCOCK, Massachusetts — The beginning of snowmaking for the 2007/2008 winter season at Jiminy Peak marked an historic moment in the history of the mountain and the industry. For the first time, snowmaking efforts at a ski resort in North America were powered by wind using energy created on property by Zephyr, Jiminy’s 1.5 MW GE wind turbine. Construction of Zephyr was completed during the summer of 2007 at the resort.
Snowmaking began on the upper mountain late Wednesday night at the resort and will continue as temperatures permit. Snowmaking and projected opening information is available online at jiminypeak.com.
Jiminy Peak is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Southern New England and the only mountain resort in North America to generate its own energy using alternative wind power. For more information visit www.jiminypeak.com.
