Loon Mountain to Host Grenade Strikes Back with Olympic Medalist Danny Kass
LINCOLN, New Hampshire — Loon Mountain will host the first of only two East Coast stops for the Grenade Strikes Back Tour, presented by two-time Olympic Silver Medalist Danny Kass and his Grenade Gloves Team on February 10 ??“ 11. Riders will use all aspects of the Loon Mountain Park (LMP) as they compete for prizes from tour sponsors in this two-day contest. Each day, one rider will win a free ticket to compete in the grand finale to be held April 20 at a resort to be determined in CA. The tour is also sponsored by Boost Mobile, Vans, Zumies, Vestal, Libtech, Gnu, Monster Energy Drink and Transworld Snowboarding.
The weekend kicks off Friday afternoon with an autograph signing with Danny Kass and the Grenade Team from 4 ??“ 5 p.m. Riders will be able to register for the contest during this time or on both Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9 ??“ 11 a.m. in the Octagon Lodge’s Bunyan Room. Registration is $40 per person and a lift ticket or season pass is required for competition.
Riders will take to the superpipe on Saturday and then demonstrate their versatility in a slopestyle contest on Sunday. Practice will be from 9:30 ??“ 11 a.m. each morning. The ladies will take to the LMP first to find the top 3 finishers. The men’s division will follow, beginning with 14 and under with the top three winning and then 15 + with the top five winning. Top riders from each division will end each day riding with their favorite pros and one person will also be chosen as that day’s overall winner. Danny Kass will act as one of the judge for the contest, the infamous Dingo will MC and live bands will be featured throughout the weekend. An after party for those over 21 will also take place Saturday night at the resort.
Loon Mountain, rated the #1 resort in the east by Transworld Snowboarding readers, has five parks up and running, including the #6 nationally ranked Loon Mountain Park, Burton Progression Park and a mini pipe. Newly opened park features include a down-flat-down single barrel rail and jersey barrier box and the #7 nationally-ranked 450-ft. superpipe which premieres for this weekend’s contest.
Loon also has a great line-up of park events scheduled for the rest of the winter, including the Open Season Finals under the lights on February 22, Fluorescent Nights from February 22 ??“ 24, The Main Event on February 25, Red Bull Schooled Ski on March 4, Shop Showdown on March 10 and Last Call with Eastern Boarder on March 21.
