NEWRY, Maine — The United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) National Championships were held during the first week of April at Northstar at Tahoe and Gould Academy Sunday River (GSR) athletes brought back a title and many strong finishes.

Jordan Sanford of Shapleigh, Maine bested a field of 72 to take first place and the national title in the 14-15 year old category. “Jordan was pretty much untouchable. I”m not sure if he expected that level of success, but his performance was worthy of first,” said GSR Snowboard Coach Chris Davies.

Jackson Tupper of Kennebunk, Maine placed 4th in slopestyle out of a field of 77 in the 14-15 year old age group. Coach Davies credits Tupper’s calm nerves for his stunning second run, which placed him in 4th.

The USASA Nationals brought 1400 male and female snowboarders age 8 to over 60 together to compete in various disciplines.

Other GSR athletes who had strong finishes include Sarah Skillin who placed 7th in Slalom, Whitney Poulin who placed 8th in Bordercross, and Kyle Dorfman who placed 12th in Slopestyle.
