MOUNT SNOW, Vermont — Mount Snow’s Un Blanco Gulch was the East’s first terrain park ever in 1992. Now it is the East’s first full terrain park to open this season.

Mount Snow terrain park designer, Ken Gaitor, and his parks and pipes crew worked around the clock to get 11 features in place for a late Saturday morning start. Gaitor supplied the following list of features, in order from top to bottom:

  • Doghouse (a mini wallride)
  • Hip jump (25′)
  • Trap Box
  • Flat Down Rail
  • Flat Rail
  • Step Down Jump (20′)
  • Narrow Flat Box (20′)
  • Rainbow Rail (20′)
  • Flat Bar (20′)
  • Butter Box
  • 25′ Step Down Jump

Freeskier magazine voted Mount Snow as having the top terrain park in the East in their November 2006 issue. Currently, Gaitor and his crew are working on a new terrain park in the Carinthia area to open later this month. With 4,940 feet of jibs, rails, and jumps, it will be the longest terrain park in the East.

Mount Snow is conducting a season-long, interactive contest to name the park. More than 1,500 individual submissions have been received thus far. Submissions can be made at www.mountsnow.com/namethispark.

Events scheduled this season at Mount Snow terrain parks include the Rail Jam on January 6, the Fourth Annual Snowstyle on February 3, and the Bud Light Anti-Gravity Grail event series on February 17-19. Young skiers and snowboarders can get in on the fun at the Grommet, a terrain park specially built for kids. Three Grommet Jams will be held during the season on December 30, January 15 and March 11.
