LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — National Geographic Magazine has named Lake Placid, N.Y. as one of the “Best 10 Winter Trips 2012.” The two-time Olympic village was one of only three United States destinations to make the world-wide list.

The article features several activities available to guests including the bobsled experience, Be a Biathlete, speed skating on the Olympic oval and the Gold Medal Games Family Edition.

“These and several more activities are what separates Lake Placid from other winter destinations,” said New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) chairman Patrick Barrett. “From skiing and sliding, to skating and taking in the hospitality of Main Street and world-class shows, the wide array of activities in and around Lake Placid continues to make the region a favorite destination amongst winter travelers.”

The other destinations listed in the magazine’s “Best 10 Winter Trips 2012” included Petra and Wad Rum, Jordan; Cuba; Namibian Coast; Chiapas, Mexico; Antarctic Peninsula; Miami, Fla. U.S.A; Fernie, British Columbia, Canada; Palm Springs, Calif., U.S.A.; and Preda-Bergun, Switzerland.
