Red Jacket’s Cape, North Conway Resorts Survive Irene
Even though she lost steam powering up the coast, Tropical Storm Irene still roughed up the Cape and Islands with wind gusts over 70 mph and widespread power outages. Despite a few missing shingles and some spots where the ocean rose a little too close for our liking, we’ve returned our oceanfront beaches to their pre-storm condition with the help of some heavy equipment (above), and all Red Jacket Resorts will be ready for a hurricane-free Labor Day Weekend.
We hope you rode out the storm safely. To those of us who live on the Cape in the summer, Irene was a lot like any other weekend guest: she showed up at the last minute, made us stock up on extra groceries, and headed off Cape late on Sunday after a whirlwind tour.
NORTH CONWAY UPDATE
Crawford Notch, Pinkham Notch, parts of the Kancamagus Highway and Bear Notch will be briefly closed for inspection from Bartlett and Jackson North. If you’re traveling through these areas the latest road conditions are available by calling the NH Dept. of Transportation at (603) 271-6862 .
