Ski Jumpers, Aerial Skiers Fly High in Weekly Summer Jumping Series in Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID, New York ??” The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) continues its summer Nordic jumping and freestyle series with Kodak Soaring Saturday on July 9, and Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday on July 13, at the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex on Rt. 73.
Soaring Saturday and Wet and Wild Wednesday shows are sponsored by Bowl Winkles, 2750 Main Street in Lake Placid. Bowl Winkles offers an eight-lane, state-of-the-art bowling center with cosmic bowling, laser tag, arcade, party packages and the Way Out West Bar and Grill.
Kodak Soaring Saturday begins at 1 pm July 9 with high-flying action from the 90-meter ski jumping hill. Nordic ski jumpers, trying to be King of the Hill, take to the sky in four head-to-head competition rounds, with each athlete trying to land the longest jump of the day.
The top regional jumpers will battle for these weekly honors on the facility??в„ўs artificial surfaces. The porcelain tile in-run and synthetic landing hill offer winter speeds and conditions.
If you arrive early, join the interactive fun with soccer golf and hockey shot beginning at 10 am.
Get set for high-flying action every Wednesday at the Kodak Sports Park at 1 pm as a number of seasoned aerial skiers are set to participate in this year??в„ўs Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday series, led by 2002 Olympic gold medalist Alisa Camplin of Australia.
These athletes practice their daredevil twists and flips jumping 60 feet into the air before splashdown into the 750,000-gallon pool. There will also be a new school freeride and snowboard component to this year??в„ўs show, featuring local New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) athletes. The Great Brit Stuart Hemsley is the ???MC from across the Sea.??? Stuart mixes it up with jammin??в„ў tunes, weekly jive, fly giveaways and another season of Lake Placid Idol. There will be interactive hockey shot, wheeled luge and soccer golf starting at 10 a.m.
Admission to Kodak Soaring Saturday and Kodak Wet and Wild Wednesday is $12 for adults and $7 for juniors and seniors. Once inside the venue, visitors are encouraged to take the chairlift and elevator to the SkyDeck, located at the top of the 120-meter ski jump tower. Kodak Sites Passports are valid for both events and can be purchased at all ORDA sites, including the ORDA Store at 6 Main Street.
Don??в„ўt be afraid to bring your appetite. ORDA concessionaire, Centerplate, will have the grill fired up for barbecue fare at these events.
