Skiing for The Genesis Fund at Attitash
BARTLETT, New Hampshire ??” New England born and bred comedian Lenny Clarke graced the slopes of Attitash on the weekend of Feb. 5 as part of the annual Lenny Clarke Celebrity Ski Classic to raise money for the Genesis Fund, which assists children born with birth defects, mental retardation and genetic diseases.
“The bottom line is generating money for the kids,” Joe Alex, special events coordinator for the Genesis Fund. “We could not have had a better weekend as far as weather and snow conditions. After the months of preparation it was nice to have the weather cooperate to put people in a giving mood.”
The event typically raises around $35,000 for the Genesis Fund through contributions, raffles, silent and live auctions. Guests also took part in a ski race with running commentary by Lenny Clarke adding to the funny factor of the weekend.
The next fundraising event for the Genesis Fund is a golf tournament on Cape Cod hosted by Boston Bruins Legend and Genesis Fund board member Jay Miller. The event takes place on May 2 and more information is available at www.thegenesisfund.org.
The Classic is just one of four events within the 40 Days and 40 Nights of Attitash, which help a good cause. Recently the mountain teamed up with the Jen’s Friend’s Foundation when $5 from each full price lift ticket went to provide support to cancer patients so that they can focus on the challenges of battling cancer and not worry about the indirect financial burdens that often arise.
The 40th calendar giving back to the community continues with a food drive on Tuesday, Feb. 8 where guests can bring three or more non-perishable food items and save $10 on their lift ticket for that day to benefit local food banks.
On Feb. 15 is the Conway Area Humane Society pet food drive, followed by the American Red Cross Ski Day on Tuesday, March 1 when $5 from every full price lift ticket goes to support the American Red Cross.
Other happenings over the course of the 40 Days and 40 Nights of Attitash include two for $40 ticket deals, free Learn to Ski or Ride clinics, kids ski free Fridays and numerous on-mountain events. Guests are urged to visit www.attitash.com/40 for the most up to date information.
