LUDLOW, Vermont — “In the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Little did Lord Alfred Tennyson know when he wrote that line, that the arrival of spring might also turn a young man’s fancy to thoughts of slush cups, dummy hucks, rail jams and other on-snow celebrations of the season. Better yet, those contemplations are not limited exclusively to young men. At Okemo Mountain Resort, springtime marks the arrival of fanciful snow conditions, lightly zany celebrations and lift ticket deals everyone will love.

When it comes to events, the season of renewal culminates at Okemo with an entire weekend jam-packed with events. Okemo’s annual SlushHuck Weekend, April 7 and 8, is a whacky celebration of spring. Events include the Slush Cup, Dummy Huck ΄n Chuck Big Air Competition and Snowriders Gone Wild Rail Jam.

In the April 7 Okemo Slush Cup, the object of the competition is to ski or snowboard down a trail and skim across an 80-foot-long pond of icy, cold slush, without falling into it. It’s a chilly spring dip for those who don’t make it. Open to the first 125 participants, the entry fee is $20 and registration takes place the day of the event in the base lodge mezzanine. Registration will be open from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and the pond skimming will begin at 11 a.m.

In the April 7 Dummy Huck ‘n Chuck Big Air Competition, contestants build their own “dummy” on skis or a snowboard and send them over a giant mound of snow on the Bull Run trail, located in Okemo’s Clocktower base area. The creator of the dummy with the most originality and greatest amplitude will receive fabulous prizes in this judged event. Registration is slated for 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the base lodge mezzanine. No entry fee is charged. Initial launchtime is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

On April 8, it’s the Snowriders Gone Wild Rail Jam. Registration is 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the base lodge mezzanine. The event starts at 11 a.m. on the Bull Run trail. It’s the last chance of the season for skiers and riders to show some steez for prizes at Okemo.

With the arrival of spring comes great deals at Okemo. Skier and Rider Appreciation Days welcome all snowsliders to enjoy a full day at Okemo for just $29 on April 5 and 12. Vermont and New Hampshire residents will also see tremendous spring savings on “Wonderful Wednesdays.” Residents from those states can ski or ride the entire day for just $29 April 4 and 11. Proof of residency in the form of a valid VT/NH driver’s license, hunting/fishing license, or voter registration card must be presented at the time of purchase.

For a great end-of-season extended weekend deal, Okemo is offering a Spring Ski and Stay special from $64.50 per person, per day, which is based on a 3-day/night weekend stay, valid from March 29 to April 1 and April 5 to 8. Customized packages are available. For details, call (800) 786-5366
