The Vermont Open and Boardercross Camp set for the 2012-13 season

STRATTON MOUNTAIN, Vermont – Two snowboard exclusive events find their home at Stratton this winter, drawing snowboarding legends and past Olympians to the mountain to compete and coach. The Heavy Medal Boardercross Camp, coached by Ross Powers and Lindsey Jacobellis, leads the calendar on December 22-23. The all-new yet legendarily vintage Vermont Open brings a snowboard and music festival to the spring, March 15-17.

First on deck is Stratton’s Heavy Medal Boardercross Camp. Coached and hosted by hometown Olympic medalists Ross Powers and Lindsey Jacobellis, this 2-day camp is designed to get young and aspiring boardercross riders to the front of the pack. With close instruction and experienced coaches, riders will work on technique, tactics and speed on the boardercross course, plus get personal time with Powers, Jacobellis and the other coaches.

The Heavy Medal Boardercross Camp will take place on December 22 and 23 for intermediate to advanced snowboarders ages 10 to 18. Presented by Stratton Mountain and The Washed Up Cup, the Vermont Open is poised to be a highlight of the season. Snowboarding, music, legends and up-and-comers will arrive on the slopes of Stratton Mountain to compete and party. A celebration of the beginning of the sport and its progression, the Vermont Open is true open, a chance for aspiring riders to compete in the same arena as past and current pros.

An event for riders, by riders, the impetus behind the Vermont Open is Steve Hayes and an advisory board of fellow snowboarding legends, pro riders from the early days of the sport. Lighthearted (but serious) competition will go down on Stratton’s main face, in more traditional events like banked slalom (a.k.a., the Washed Up Cup) and more recent favorites like a rail jam.

For a whole weekend, March 15-17, the legends of snowboarding will take over Stratton Mountain, and take us with them on a ride through the history of the sport. It’ll be one heck of a time.
