STRATTON MOUNTAIN, Vermont – The 11th Annual Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer at Stratton Mountain raised more than $106,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, beating previous fundraising records for the third year in a row.

This year’s Romp took place on Saturday, Jan. 26, when 780 Vermont Rompers hit higher fundraising amounts than ever before in the team and individual categories.

Cook with Love, a team of mothers and daughters based in Westchester County, N.Y., earned the honor of highest fund-raising team for the second year in a row. Team members collected $38,600, more than doubling their $14,803 total in 2012.

Cook With Love team captain Alicia Ifshin also claimed the top individual fundraiser spot after collecting $20,799 from supporters, close to three times as much as last year’s top individual. Her total drew gasps and applause from the crowd, prompting one fellow romper to ask how she did it.

“We have a lot of family and a lot of friends supporting us,” said Ifshin, who became involved in the Romp after her mother’s death from breast cancer. Their inspiration and secret weapon: a collection of Ifshin’s mother’s favorite recipes in a cookbook entitled “Cook With Love,” which was given to donors.

“Everyone loved my mother’s food, no one could turn down a meal at her house. When someone asked for a recipe, she would always say that the most important thing is to cook with love,” explained Ifshin.

A loving spirit, outrageous costumes and tons of pink pervaded Stratton’s Nordic Center during the event. Many teams donned event-appropriate team names, including the “Peek-A-Boobs” and “Snow Me Your Boobies,” which was chosen as the funniest team name.

On the menu tonight for the Cook with Love team? “Salmon, steak, shrimp with that remoulade” – all to be shared with Ifshin’s 22 teammates at their house nearby.

Since beginning at Stratton Mountain in 2003, The Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer has become the largest snowshoeing series in the world. All pledges and donations from the Vermont Romp to Stomp go directly to the Vt./N.H. affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
