Sugarloaf/USA Announces Finalists in Name the Park Contest
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — A field of nearly 2,000 entries in Sugarloaf/USA’s Name the Park Contest has been narrowed to 12 finalists. One name from the lucky list of 12 will become a part of Sugarloaf history by being the first trail name selected directly from guests’ ideas.
“We were thoroughly impressed by the sheer volume and creativity Sugarloafers showed us in their trail names,” said Bill Swain, Sugarloaf’s communications manager. “Nearly 500 individual Sugarloafers of all ages sent in one to a hundred suggestions for us to choose from. Many stayed true to Sugarloaf’s logging heritage while others went in original directions.”
A committee of Sugarloafers reviewed each and every entry and sorted them into three categories ??“ Maybe, Probably Not, and Made Us Smile. Those in the Maybe category were further refined to the list of 12 finalists. One especially creative Sugarloafer penned four of the 12 finalist selections. If more than one entry of the same name was received, credit was given to the first entry only.
The winning name will be announced Dec. 29. The author of the winning name will be awarded a Sugarloaf season’s pass for this year or next, have his name and story immortalized on Sugarloaf.com and the new terrain park, will serve as a consultant to Sugarloaf’s terrain park staff about park design, and be invited to take the inaugural run once the park is complete next month.
