Sunday River and Sugarloaf Resorts Announce Prize Packages for Downtown Showdown
NEWRY and CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — While bragging rights come standard with competing in Sunday River and Sugarloaf’s first-ever urban rail jam ??“ The Downtown Showdown ??“ the competition just got a little sweeter with the extra incentive of over $5,000 in cash and prizes.
The Downtown Showdown takes place in Portland, Maine’s Monument Square from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009 and will feature 16 skiers and 16 snowboarders. Prizes will be awarded to the top three skiers and snowboarders in the form of cash and hard goods. First place will walk away with $500 in cash and exclusive Oakley Crankcase watches valued at $900. Second place secures $250 in cash and third place $100. As well, second and third place athletes will also walk away with new skis/snowboards.
To challenge their athleticism, The Downtown Showdown will feature a custom 30 foot staircase complete with an overturned lobster boat as a finale feature. A DJ, music, and lights are sure to create added excitement for the crowds below.
