Sunday River Golf Club Opens on Friday, June 5
NEWRY, Maine — The Sunday River Golf Club opens for the season on Friday, June 5, 2009. New this summer, golfers can take advantage of Sunday River Golf Club’s addition of the Harris Golf Discovery Schools. As part of the new Harris Golf Discovery Schools, “Golf School Getaways” will be offered in conjunction with Sunday River Resort. Other Harris Golf Discovery School programs include “Welcome to Golf,” “Women’s Welcome to Golf” and “Junior Golf Clinics.” Daily hour-long clinics round out a summer and fall’s worth of instruction that’s sure to keep a golfer’s skills up to par.

From now until June 21, Sunday River offers golfers Golf and Stay vacation packages starting at just $99 per person. Golf and Stay vacation packages include 18 holes of award winning golf and lodging at one of Sunday River’s Grand Resort Hotels. Harris Golf Discovery School at the Sunday River Golf Club
Sunday River Golf Club’s Golf School Getaways provide golfers with a more intensive stay and play vacation that includes five hours of daily instruction where the 4:1 student to pro ratio provides students with ample attention and guidance. Golf School Getaways include two days of professional instruction, video swing analysis, use of demo clubs, unlimited range balls, two nights lodging at one of Sunday River’s Grand Resort Hotels, as well as breakfast and lunch daily starting at just $599 per person (double occupancy). Single rates start at $699 per person; commuters pay just $499.
“Welcome to Golf” is a new class designed for the beginner golfer. The lesson starts with a tour of the Sunday River Golf Club and then moves into the basics of swing, putting, proper use of various clubs, rules and etiquette. This three week-long class culminates with actual play on the course guided by the class instructor. “Welcome to Golf” is held on Sundays and Tuesdays and is open to all golfers. Additionally, a ladies-specific version is offered throughout the season on Saturday afternoons. Cost for the entire class is $99 and includes three vouchers to play nine holes at the Sunday River Golf Club.
Junior Golf Clinics helps younger golfers work toward their next level. These clinics are free of charge for junior and family club members; for non-members, the cost is $395 per person and includes a 2009 Junior Membership for the attendee upon completion of the class. Each week-long session is limited to six junior golfers and covers material such as short game, swing mechanics, irons, woods and hybrids, rules and etiquette. The final day of the clinic is spent playing nine holes with the instructor.
Finally, daily clinics ranging from basics to more advanced techniques round out the Sunday River Golf Club’s summer calendar. Daily clinics are one hour long and taught by the Club’s professional instructors. The clinics are free to Club members and only $15 for guests.
The Sunday River Golf Club is located just three hours from Boston, MA and one hour from both North Conway, NH and Portland, ME. Greens fees are $95 Sunday – Thursday and $120 Friday – Saturday, cart included. Reservations are highly encouraged.
