Tour of the Catskills Bike Event Seeks Volunteers
HUNTER and WINDHAM, New York — The Tour of the Catskills Cycling Race will be held on September 6 & 7, 2008 in Hunter & Windham, NY. More than 400 racers from around the region are expected to race the 2-day ‘stage race’ similar to the Tour de France. Racers will compete over 2 days for an overall championship and a yellow leader’s jersey. Races for both amateurs and professionals will be held on various local, county and state roads in Greene County. Partial proceeds of the event will benefit local charities, including the Adaptive Sports Foundation. The event is hosted by the Catskill Mountain Foundation.
Event organizers are seeking volunteers, race marshals, registration personnel, and drivers to ensure the event’s success. Race marshals will work with race officials, local police, and motorists to safely usher racers through critical intersections. Registration personnel will greet riders, distribute race numbers, and answer questions about the race at the race registration sites in Hunter and Windham during the race weekend. Pace and support car drivers will lead and follow the races at the direction of race officials. All volunteers will receive full training and all necessary materials prior to the race including a commemorative race t-shirt.
Interested volunteers should contact Toni Peretti at The Catskill Mountain Foundation at (518) 263-2007 or perrettit@CatskillMtn.org.
Training meetings for volunteers are scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in Hunter from 6-7 PM at the Catskill Mountain Foundation Movie Theatre, and from 7:30-8:30 PM at the Windham Mountain Resort main lodge. Interested volunteers may attend either meeting. Those not able to attend the meetings may arrange separate training if necessary.
