CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine ??” If you’ve ever dreamed of calling a Red Sox baseball game from the radio booth or strapping yourself into a stunt plane for a death-defying aerobatic adventure, then you won’t want to miss the 2006 Sugarloaf/USA Charity Summit on Saturday, Jan. 21. Both of these dreams, plus many others, can be fulfilled at the second annual Charity Ball when you can bid on these amazing adventures, vacations, and other one-of-a-kind items.

The live auction is just one aspect of the weekend-long Charity Summit, that is an annual tradition at Sugarloaf to raise funds for the Maine Cancer Foundation and the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center in Farmington. Last year this event raised more than $114,000 for Maine charities. This year organizers have set the goal at $150,000.

The event kicks off on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Sugarloaf Inn with a cocktail reception, Chinese auction, and entertainment from Maine humorist Gary Crocker and former Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justice Daniel Wathen. On Saturday, Charity Summit fundraisers and sponsors can compete in the charity race on Boardwalk. Participants strive to gain the “fastest” time, which is a combination of actual race time and the amount of money raised. The more money a participant raises, the more time that is deducted from their actual race time. The Charity Race is the open to the public. Race your friends, your family, your coaches, Amos, and others for a small donation at the start gate.

After dark, the social event of the winter season, the Charity Ball, gets underway with dancing to the big band sound of the Edith Jones Project. A silent auction and the drawing of the raffle winner of a three year season pass to Sugarloaf will follow. The highlight of the evening will be the live auction when participants can bid on truly unique items like tickets to the Red Sox vs. White Sox game including a visit to the radio booth, a flight on the Red Bull stunt plane, vacations to The Canyons and Steamboat, a Tom Brady autographed football a 4-foot SpongeBob SquarePants plush toy, and much more. A complete list of auction items can be found at www.sugarloaf.com/charity.html.

The Maine Cancer Foundation and the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center are dedicated to improving the health and welfare of Maine residents affected by cancer through research, community outreach, and prevention programs.

Tickets for the Charity Ball are available to the general public for $50 each or $90 per couple and can be purchased by calling 207-237-6939 or pick them up at Sugarloaf’s Guest Services desk in the base lodge.

For more information log on to www.sugarloaf.com/charity.html or call Martha Bradley at 207-797-7130.
