BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire ??” The Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods is excited to usher in spring with tropical drinks, island crafts and a luau with games, music, and a pig roast. Although the days of snowy slopes are far from over at Bretton Woods Mountain Resort, longer days and warmer temperatures mean it’s time for some great spring skiing fun at the 21st annual Bretton Woods Beach Party Saturday, April 1.

A welcome reception for guests of the Mount Washington Hotel on Friday evening will feature a beverage tasting of colorful springtime drinks. On Saturday, belly dancing lessons during the day will prepare all who dare to celebrate the coming of warmer temperatures. All are invited to share in the poolside fun at the Tropical Island Madness Luau with water volleyball, tropical music, and drink tastings. At the dance party in The Cave that evening, show off that belly dancing skill while prizes are awarded for the best tropical outfits.

At the Bretton Woods Beach Party on Saturday, this annual rite of spring will offer lots of fun on and off the slopes. The Bretton Woods Beach Party will celebrate spring skiing with the reggae sounds of “The Well,” and Mojo Mountain Authority” and an outdoor barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. A popular Bretton Woods tradition, the slush-pool-skimming contest, starting at 2 p.m., will determine the hardiest daredevil skiers and snowboarders as they vie to successfully skim the icy pond of slush at the bottom of the slope. “The agony of defeat” takes on a cold new meaning for those who don’t succeed. Prizes will be awarded to contestants who are the driest, most stylish, and exhibit the best wipeout.

Bretton Woods Director of Racing (and slush pool supervisor) Steve DeBenedictis says, “Getting across the pond shouldn’t be the goal for participants. Crowds of spectators enjoy getting wet. Whether they admit it or not, they all wish they could be the ones with enough guts to go for the glory. So competitors should aim more for making a big splash than making it across dry.”

The fun will continue on the deck of the base lodge with an apr??s ski party featuring beach themed contests and more spring silliness, sponsored by Jose Cuervo and Corona.
