WARREN, Vermont — Sugarbush Resort will close out a near-record breaking winter season this weekend with a Cinco de Mayo bash. With 314 inches of snow blanketing the slopes since December (over seven feet of which fell last month) the resort plans to offer one last weekend of skiing and riding. <\/p>\n

“I’ve been skiing here for over 35 years and I can’t remember a season like this,” said Sugarbush president Win Smith referring to the season’s bountiful snowfall. “It was tempting to call it a season last weekend, but the (weather) forecast for this Saturday and Sunday looks too good to pass up.” The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny skies with temps in the 50s and 60s. <\/p>\n

Weather permitting, Sugarbush plans to offer expert-only skiing and riding on Stein’s Run on Saturday and Sunday. The Valley House double chair is scheduled to spin from 10 AM to 4 PM on both days. For those just looking to get a jump on their summer tan, the patio at the Castlerock Pub will have the barbeque going from noon to three with Cinco de Mayo-themed drink specials all weekend. The Detonators will be supplying live music on Saturday from 2 to 5 PM. Car racing enthusiasts can stroll out to the Lincoln Peak parking lot to watch the Green Mountain Piston Cup. The inaugural event, presented by the Sports Car Club of Vermont, will pit the best autocross racers from New England and Quebec in a precision driving contest. Racing gets underway at 10 AM Saturday.
