KILLINGTON, Vermont — The International Mountain Bike Association’s (IMBA) Trail Care Crew is hosting a Trail Building School at Killington Resort on Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the K-1 Lodge.<\/p>\n
IMBA Trail Care Crew members Anna Laxague and Jason Wells are teaming with Killington for a weekend dedicated to learning all about trail building and improving local trails. Or call the Killington Mountain Bike Shop at 802-422-6232.<\/p>\n Saturday’s Trail Building School will combine interactive learning and hands-on trail work as top-notch instructors strive to develop skilled trail workers and trail work leaders. The morning classroom session will be followed by an afternoon of field instruction and cover the following topics: sustainable trail design; basic construction; turns, drainage and bridges; trail reroutes; trail reclamation; rockwork; fostering volunteer clubs and partnerships; effective use of signage.<\/p>\n The Subaru\/IMBA Trail Care Crew will also be at Granny Gear’s 24 Hours of Killington mountain bike race July 28-29, which offers up to $20,000 in cash and prizes as part of the 24 Hour National Point Series.<\/p>\n Registration is now open at www.grannygear.com<\/a> featuring 22 pro and amateur categories for all ages and abilities, including solo, duo, four and five person teams. The objective is to complete as many laps as possible starting with the signature LeMans-style start in which competitors run to their bikes before heading out on the first lap at noon on Saturday, July 28. Racers will then spend the next 24 hours riding, resting, refueling or strategizing as they devise new ways to beat the competition. <\/p>\n Snowshed Lodge will serve as race headquarters featuring the start\/finish area, event expo, festivities and delicious food offerings loaded with energizing protein and carbohydrates and beverages to fuel riders through their all day and night competition. Killington’s nine-mile course will feature almost 1,800 feet of climbing, consisting of classic New England singletrack, double track and dirt roads winding up, down and across the ski trails on Ramshead, Snowdon, Killington and Skye Peaks. <\/p>\n The 24 Hours of Killington will offer all the usual first-class elements typical of Granny Gear events: RealTime Scoring(TM), cash purses and prizes, great music and race announcing, hot showers with camping, the ideal setting to get together with friends and family for a weekend getaway.
