STOWE, Vermont — Mt. Mansfield Company, dba Stowe Mountain Resort has received the 2007 ASDSO (The Association of State Dam Safety Officials) Northeast Regional Award of Merit. The Association gives this award annually to individuals or organizations working in the dam safety field that have made outstanding contributions to dam safety on a regional level.

“We spend a great amount of time each year working on the dam to ensure that all safety requirements are met,” says Scott Reeves, Stowe’s VP of Mountain Operations. “It’s great to know that our new lake provides the ski area with adequate water for snowmaking while supplying a clean consistent source of water to sustain our streams and river,” said Reeves.

Stowe’s snowmaking water conservation programs began in 2001. Program outcomes include the decreased reliance on stream withdrawals during low flows and improved health of the aquatic community. In 2005 SMR began operation of a new 110 million-gallon snowmaking water storage facility named Peregrine Lake. Additionally, SMR established a system that treats and recycles storm water for snowmaking purposes and installed state of the art snowmaking equipment.
