CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Sugarloaf is the place to be for this year’s Holiday Vacation Week, with a full calendar of events for the whole family, as well as some of the best December conditions in years.

Holiday week festivities will include a Double Header Comedy Night, the Carry the Torch for a Cure Torchlight Parade and Fireworks, and a Family New Year’s Party.

Spend the days on the slopes, and then be a part of one of Sugarloaf’s most cherished events, the Carry the Torch for a Cure Torchlight Parade on Dec. 28. Skiers are riders will light up the night sky as they head down the mountain carrying torches to raise money for the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center. Skiers and riders who are at least 18 years old and make a minimum contribution of $60 are invited to be torchbearers. A vibrant fireworks display will commence as torchbearers reach the base area.

The festivities continue following the fireworks, with a Double Header Comedy Night featuring Tim Sample and the Maine Hysterical Society. Sample, widely recognized as New England’s premier native humorist, will headline the show on Sugarloaf’s main stage in the King Pine Room at 8 pm, following the Hysterical Society, who will open the show at 6:30. The show is open to all ages, and tickets are $6 for the first show, $10 for the second, or $13 for both. Tickets are available at Guest Services or by calling 1-800-THE-LOAF.

The week concludes with a Family New Year’s Eve Party in the Base Lodge, featuring games, live music, contra dancing, and a spectacular fireworks show. Now in it’s seventh year, this year’s Family New Year’s Eve Party will include live music by Frigate, and for the first time at Sugarloaf, contra dancing with Chrissy Fowler, considered Maine’s premier caller. There will be games throughout the night, including word scrambles, memory games, and a giant game of Scrabble, and the whole evening concludes with an incredible fireworks display on the Landing.
