NEWRY, Maine — In the action sports world there is the saying “go big or go home” freeski legend Simon Dumont is known for going big and he has a world record to prove it. Now Dumont is going big and going home with his new partnership with New England’s premier ski destination, Sunday River.

Best known for its incomparable snowmaking and the large amount of available ski terrain, Sunday River offers an impressive 131 trails spread across eight interconnected peaks. The resort is widely considered to be one of the East’s best ski mountains, so it is no surprise that Sunday River is where the world’s best freeskier got his start.

Born into a family of skiers in nearby small town, Bethel, Maine, Sunday River has been a regular haunt since Dumont can remember. It was where Dumont honed his talents, and the first resort to witness the then three-year old ski prodigy outshine everyone on the slopes.

This new collaboration between Dumont and Sunday River marks the culmination of what has already been a banner year. In April of 2008, Dumont made history at Sunday River when he set the world record for height on a quarterpipe soaring 35.5 feet in the air. This attempt had been one of Simon’s goals for years, and when the opportunity presented itself Dumont naturally turned to his hometown resort.

As part of this groundbreaking relationship, Dumont has plans to co-design a signature park with Sunday River’s park crews and launch an international ski competition that will bring the best of the ski industry to Sunday River. “I am thrilled to be joining forces with Sunday River. I’ve skied all over the globe, but there is nothing like skiing there. It truly is home to me. I am looking forward to introducing it to the rest of the world.”
