SOUTH EGREMONT, MA ??” Catamount Ski Area will open for the season on Saturday, December 18.

According to General Manager Bill Gilbert, snowmaking operations are expected to continue around the clock for the foreseeable future.

“If the weather stays as forecast,” Gilbert said, “we’ll offer skiing and riding on at least 10 trails this weekend.”

Gilbert said that popular runs including Upper and Lower Glade, Catamount Slope and the Racing Trail were expected on the main mountain.

In the resort’s “The Meadows” area, which is the largest complex of Green Circle or “easier” runs in the Berkshires, Gilbert expects to open Walter’s Way, Kelli’s Run and Esplanade.

Four lifts are scheduled to operate this weekend, including the Wonder Carpet in the Snow Sports Learning Area. The Wonder Carpet is a lift that makes learning to ski or ride easier and less-intimidating for first-timers than a chairlift.

Ticket prices this weekend will be $25 for all skiers and riders.

Snowmaking operations will continue as the resort approaches the Christmas holiday week. Catamount expects to offer its newly-expanded Megaplex terrain park, the all-new Upper Promenade trail, and routes from the summit as long as 2 ?? miles for the holiday period.
