Jay Peak, Long Trail Ale Partner for Internationally-Recognized Music and Art Lineup<\/p>\n
August 6, 2012 (Jay, VT)- Jay Peak Resort and Long Trail Ale have announced the second-half of their Summer Music and Arts Series. The Series continues with the annual August West Festival on Saturday, August 11, and also includes shows by the Wailers and the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience. The summer lineup runs until the end of September.<\/p>\n
The August West Festival, now in its eight year, was originally conceived as a way to both celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead and the community in and around the Jay Peak area. The early years of the festival saw only limited traffic with dogs often equaling the amount of people in attendance. In recent years however, the outdoor festival has seen more than 1,500 visitors a year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s a great way to spend the day,\u201d said Steve Wright, Jay Peak\u2019s vice president of sales and marketing and the festival\u2019s founder. \u201cThe kids have a good time because of the free Ben and Jerry\u2019s ice cream and t-shirt tie-dying station. Plus, there\u2019s lots of good food, drink, and great live music.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s music lineup includes Hoopla, Cats Under the Stars, and Rick Redington and the Luv. August West will be held on Saturday, August 11 from 12-6pm on the green of the Cedarwood Resort in the town of Jay. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
The spirit of the Grateful Dead lives through the month with the resort\u2019s hosting of the Jerry Garcia Art Exhibition and Sale. The one-day showing will display a wide array of Garcia\u2019s belongings including his trademark black t-shirt, guitar picks, business cards, and custom-made Fender attach\u00e9 case. His original artwork will also be on display with watercolors, pen & ink drawings, and hand-signed lithographs all available for purchase. The show will be held in the Foeger Ballroom on Saturday, August 25 from 10am-4pm and will have food, drink and live music.<\/p>\n
The Wailers roll onto the mountain on Friday, August 17. The band that originally formed to play with Bob Marley, and who has opened for the likes of Sting and the Fugees, will bring their island-infused reggae to the Foeger Ballroom. The Wailers is a ticketed show with both general admission and special VIP access passes. The VIP Long Trail Lounge will open early offering pass holders hors d’oeuvres, Long Trail beer, and a special meet-and-greet with members of the band. Doors open at 6:00pm with one of Vermont\u2019s favorite reggae bands Conscious Roots opening the show.<\/p>\n
The Series wraps up on Sunday, September 23 with a performance by the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience. A close friend of the Grateful Dead\u2019s late Jerry Garcia, the two recorded several bluegrass albums together before Grisman\u2019s forming his Bluegrass Experience band. The ticketed show will be in the Foeger Ballroom with both general admission and tickets to the VIP Long Trail Lounge available. Doors open at 6:00pm.<\/p>\n
