""NEWRY, MAINE (October 13, 2012)—Sunday River made snow last night on its T2 trail to get a jump start on what looks to be a potentially early ski season. Though the resort does not plan to open this weekend, this snowmaking gives Sunday River a great early season base.

“Making snow in October is the new norm,” Dana Bullen, President and General Manager for Sunday River, says. “We’ve opened before Halloween for the last five seasons now, so we’re always ready to start making snow the moment temperatures are right.”

In this case, that meant sustained temperatures between 26–30 degrees overnight. “If we can open for skiing and riding soon, you can bet that we will,” Bullen continues. “We’re committed to making snow and giving our passholders and guests as long a season as possible.”

To prove that commitment, Sunday River allocated $1 million of its $2.7 million capital enhancement budget to the purchase of 300 new HKD SV10 Impulse snowguns—a project also made possible via a $300k grant by Efficiency Maine.

Though in the snowmaking business for almost 40 years, with Sunday River’s current five-year vision, this $1 million dollar investment moves the resort closer to its goal of doubling its water capacity and pump capability all while becoming more energy efficient.

Known for having the most technically advanced snowmaking system in the East, Sunday River’s new Impulse snowguns will cover 15 of the resort’s most popular trails, including T2, Moonstruck, Ecstasy, Monday Mourning, Lazy River, and Grand Rapids.
