LAKE PLACID, New York ??” Ever wonder what it’s like to be a winter Olympian? Or are you looking to hone your skills? Either way, let Try It Tuesday, offered by the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), help you reach another level of performance and appreciation for what the world’s best can do.

Try It Tuesday takes place weekly through Aug. 23 from 4-6pm at the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex and the accompanying Kodak Sports Park. The venue is located just outside Lake Placid on Rt. 73. Residents and visitors alike are invited to partake. If you thought the sport of luge was fascinating, try it on wheels. Coaches from ORDA’s Sports Development Department will show you thetechniques needed to pilot a sled down a paved course.

If you are a gymnast, aspiring freestyle aerial skier, freeskier or boarder, strap into our trampoline setup and just try it at the Kodak SportsPark under the watchful eye of former United States skier Wes Preston. From there, if you are at least 10 years of age, you could head over to the skimmer ramp or single kicker at the pool. With guidance, take the plunge as you will be instructed by pool supervisor and coach RichieMorgan. Learn to Ski Jump is also offered on the 18 meter hill with Dan Warner, coach and venue manager, guiding the newcomers to just try it, be they young or not-so-young.

Registration for these activities takes place in the base lodge. The cost is $10 for one activity or $20 for all. A waiver must be completed andsigned by a parent or guardian if the participant is under 18. All participants in the skiing activities should bring their own ski gear and helmet aswell as a life jacket for freestyle. A limited amount of equipment is available. Call 518-523-2202 for details and just try it.

Food and beverage will be served in the base lodge by ORDA concessionaire, Centerplate. When Try It Tuesday concludes in late summer, perhaps you’ll be ready to throw down your best tricks in the season-ending Lake Placid Huck and Tuck on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Kodak Sports Park.
